Homeopathy - assists the body to heal itself.
This system of medicine recognises that all symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within the whole person. It is the patient who needs treatment rather than the disease.
Different people react in different ways to the same illness and in order to find the remedy your homeopath will need to know not only your physical symptoms but also as much as possible about yourself and how the symptoms affect you.
Homeopathic remedies are made from incredibly minute doses of substances related to the cause of the symptoms. They cannot cause side effects or addiction.
Barrie Anson D.Ho.M (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine) was conferred from The Homeopathic Foundation, in 1979.
The origins of homeopathy
go back to the fifth century BC and the ancient principle of 'like treating like', first expressed by the Greek physician Hippocrates.
In 1810, a German physician called Samuel Hahnemann was inspired by the discovery that an herbal remedy against malaria, made from cinchona tree bark produced symptoms of malaria, such as headache and fever, when taken by a healthy person. He concluded that symptoms simply demonstrated the body's way of fighting illness.
Medicines, which provoked the same symptoms in a healthy person - as illness produced in an unhealthy one, could aid recovery. Put another way - like treating like. Interestingly, it was later discovered that cinchona bark contains quinine, the first drug used against malaria so he was clearly on to something.
Dr. Hahnemann proposed a new system of medicine based on gentler ways of helping the body to heal itself. In fact, it was a re-discovery of the ancient principle used by Hippocrates. Dr. Hahnemann called his method 'homeopathy' meaning 'like disease,' in contrast to conventional medicine that he termed 'allopathy' meaning 'against disease,' since the latter uses medicines to suppress or prevent symptoms.
