Alternative Healing

It is often said that illness is a state of body and wellness is a state of mind. Even a seriously ill person can feel a sense of perfect tranquillity and rejuvenation if he is able to achieve a balance between the physical and mental reactions of the body to the treatment method adopted. This is the basic assumption on which almost all the alternative healing methods function. It could be viewed as a reconstruction of the old proverb “sound mind in a sound body”; alternative healing puts mind over body and believes in the great powers of the human mind in accomplishing overall wellness.

Alternative healing methods have been viewed as the “other option” or “final option” till recently; however, with more and more people becoming aware of the natural healing methods, the world has woken to the infinite possibilities of alternative healing and alternative medicines as a primary method of treatment. When combined with the conventional medical practice as complementary medicine, it can be an effective way to bring a patient back to normalcy, both physically and mentally, during and after the treatment period, especially in the pre and post surgery stages. For example, aroma therapy is used for creating a serene environment which can bring peace and calmness for patients suffering from stubborn ailments or mental depression; it is also effective as an excellent stimulant. Being natural healing processes, most of the alternative healing methods are devoid of side effects and in some cases can even go beyond the limits of ordinary medicine. Some of the alternative therapy methods can be done on the self; self healing resides on the premise that perfect cure happens when one prepares the mind and body to accept the treatment administered. Though there is a wide range of alternative healing practices, some of the most renowned therapies are naturopathy, herbalism, traditional Chinese medicine, Unani, chiropractic, acupuncture, meditation, yoga, hypnosis, biofeedback, ayurveda, homeopathy, aromatherapy, diet-based therapies, magnet therapy, reiki, faith healing, pranic healing, holistic medicine, cognitive-behavioural therapy, music therapy, hydrotherapy, siddha medicine, support groups, etc.

Alternative healing can be considered as a career option if you have an altruistic mindset and a desire to free people from physical and mental illness. There are several courses that teach the different branches of alternative healing; the career choices are many for a professionally trained alternative healer. Today’s world and its hurried lifestyle have certainly opened infinite opportunities for an alternative medicine practitioner.
